An NBP IBAN is PK, two check digits, NBPA, your 4-digit branch code, 00, then your 10-digit account number. Branch 0123 and account 1234567890 give PK18NBPA0123001234567890.
Enter the 10-digit account number and the branch code above. The branch code is printed on your cheque book and statement; without it the IBAN cannot be made.
Branch code first, then the account
| Part | Example | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Country | PK | 2 letters |
| Check digits | 18 | 2 |
| Bank code | NBPA | 4 letters |
| Branch code | 0123 | 4 |
| Zeros | 00 | 2 |
| Account number | 1234567890 | 10 |
NBP's own documents show this layout. A National Bank press release for a relief fund gives the account number 4181048973 at branch code 0002 with the IBAN PK92 NBPA 0002 0041 8104 8973: branch code, two zeros, then the 10 digits. Enter those here and you get PK92NBPA0002004181048973.
The NBP Digital app asks for a 14-digit account number, which is the same 4-digit branch code and 10 digits written together. If you have that 14-digit form, type the last 10 digits as the account number and the first 4 as the branch code.
Worked example: branch 0123, account 1234567890
- 16-digit part: 0123 + 00 + 1234567890 = 0123001234567890.
- Move PK00 to the end: NBPA0123001234567890PK00.
- Letters to numbers (N = 23, B = 11, P = 25, A = 10, K = 20): 231125100123001234567890252000.
- Remainder after dividing by 97: 80. Check digits: 98 minus 80 = 18.
IBAN: PK18NBPA0123001234567890.
The same account at a different branch gets a different IBAN. Branch 0456 with account 1234567890 gives PK63NBPA0456001234567890, so the branch code matters as much as the account number.
Pensions, salaries and government payments
Many pensions and government salaries are paid into NBP accounts, and offices ask for the IBAN on pension and payroll forms. Copy the IBAN from your statement where you can; the State Bank asked every bank to print it there. If you work it out here, check it against the statement or ask your branch before you hand in the form.
For a payment into an account at another bank, the IBAN generator for all banks covers most Pakistani banks.
National Bank of Pakistan has no connection with this site. Confirm the IBAN with your branch or statement before using it.
NBP IBAN questions
How many digits is an NBP account number?
The account number is 10 digits. NBP Digital asks for 14 digits because it puts the 4-digit branch code in front. The IBAN uses all 14: branch code, two zeros, then the 10-digit account number.
What is National Bank of Pakistan's IBAN code?
NBPA. It comes after PK and the two check digits in every NBP IBAN, and it is the start of NBP's SWIFT code too.
Where do I find my NBP branch code?
It is printed on your cheque book and account statement. Use all four digits, including any leading zeros, such as 0002.
Can I use my IBAN in NBP Digital?
Yes. NBP Digital's sign-up asks for your 14-digit account number or your IBAN, so either works there.
Why does my NBP IBAN have two zeros in the middle?
The IBAN has 16 digits after NBPA. Branch code and account number make 14, so two zeros sit between them to fill the space. They are the same for every NBP account.
