Bank AL Habib account numbers have 17 digits, and the IBAN uses the first 16 of them. A Bank AL Habib IBAN is PK, two check digits, BAHL, then those 16 digits, so 1234-0081-012345-01-1 becomes PK29BAHL1234008101234501.
Type all 17 digits above, dashes and all. The calculator drops the last digit and works out the check digits for you.
What the 17 digits mean
Allied Bank's interbank format sheet sets out the Bank AL Habib account number as BBBB TTTT BBBBBB RR C:
| Part | Example | Digits | In the IBAN? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Branch code | 1234 | 4 | Yes |
| Account type | 0081 | 4 | Yes |
| Base number | 012345 | 6 | Yes |
| Running number | 01 | 2 | Yes |
| Check digit | 1 | 1 | No |
The last digit is the bank's own check on the account number. The IBAN has its own check digits after PK, so the 17th digit is left out and the IBAN carries the first 16 unchanged.
Worked example: 1234-0081-012345-01-1
- First 16 digits: 1234008101234501.
- Move PK00 to the end: BAHL1234008101234501PK00.
- Letters to numbers (B = 11, A = 10, H = 17, L = 21, P = 25, K = 20): 111017211234008101234501252000.
- Remainder after dividing by 97: 69. Check digits: 98 minus 69 = 29.
IBAN: PK29BAHL1234008101234501. Change only the final digit of the account number and the IBAN stays the same, which is why a typo in that last digit does not show up in the IBAN. Check the account number itself on your cheque book.
Bank AL Habib's own generator
Bank AL Habib runs an IBAN generator on its website that asks for your 17-digit account number, and its Islamic banking site has the same tool. The bank asks customers to quote the full IBAN for payments and receipts at home and abroad. The State Bank asked every bank to print the IBAN on account statements too.
This calculator gives the same 24 characters and shows the arithmetic behind the check digits, which helps when a payroll or freelancing platform rejects an IBAN and you want to see why. For HBL or Meezan Bank accounts the layout is different.
Common slips
- Typing only 16 digits. The calculator asks for all 17, so it knows where the account number ends. If you type 16 it will tell you the length is wrong.
- Adding the 17th digit to the IBAN. That makes 25 characters, and no Pakistani IBAN is longer than 24.
- Confusing BAHL with HABB. Bank AL Habib is BAHL. HABB is HBL and MPBL is Habib Metropolitan Bank, three separate banks.
Match the result with your Bank AL Habib statement before sharing it. This site is independent of Bank AL Habib.
Bank AL Habib IBAN questions
How many digits is a Bank AL Habib account number?

Why is the last digit missing from my Bank AL Habib IBAN?

Where can I see my Bank AL Habib IBAN?
