A Bank of Punjab IBAN is PK, two check digits, BPUN and your 16-digit account number exactly as it is. Nothing is padded or cut, so account 6010012345678901 gives PK23BPUN6010012345678901.
Type the 16 digits above. The only part you cannot read off your cheque book is the pair of check digits, and the calculator works those out.
BOP account number in the IBAN
| Part | Example | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Country | PK | 2 letters |
| Check digits | 23 | 2 |
| Bank code | BPUN | 4 letters |
| Account number | 6010012345678901 | 16 |
Allied Bank's interbank format sheet lists Bank of Punjab account numbers as 16 or 17 digits. A 16-digit number fills the IBAN's account part exactly, the same way MCB and Allied Bank numbers do.
A 17-digit BOP number is one digit too long for the IBAN, and BOP does not publish which digit is left out. The calculator stops and tells you so rather than guess; take a 17-digit account's IBAN from your statement.
How the check digits are found
Account 6010012345678901:
- Put the bank code and account first and PK00 last: BPUN6010012345678901PK00.
- Turn letters into numbers: B = 11, P = 25, U = 30, N = 23 and K = 20. The string becomes 112530236010012345678901252000.
- Divide that long number by 97. The remainder is 75.
- Subtract it from 98: 98 minus 75 = 23.
IBAN: PK23BPUN6010012345678901. Run it through Check an IBAN and the remainder is 1, which every valid IBAN gives.
A typo the check catches
Suppose the example is copied with its last two digits swapped: PK23 BPUN 6010 0123 4567 8910. Check an IBAN finds a remainder of 50, not 1, and says that account part would need check digits of 71. One wrong digit, or two neighbouring digits swapped, always fails the test, so the slip is caught before money is sent.
The State Bank asked every bank to print the IBAN on account statements, so the statement is the place to confirm it. For an account at another bank, use the IBAN generator for all banks.
Confirm your IBAN on your Bank of Punjab statement before you give it out. The Bank of Punjab is not connected with this site.
Bank of Punjab IBAN questions
How many digits is a Bank of Punjab account number?
Most are 16 digits. Allied Bank's interbank format sheet lists BOP account numbers as 16 or 17 digits. A 16-digit number goes into the IBAN unchanged after PK, the check digits and BPUN.
What is the IBAN code of the Bank of Punjab?
BPUN. These four letters follow PK and the two check digits in every BOP IBAN, and they are the start of the bank's SWIFT code too.
Does a BOP IBAN include the branch code?
Not as a separate part. The IBAN carries your 16-digit account number exactly as printed, with nothing added or removed, so there is no separate branch code to type.
Where can I find my BOP IBAN?
On your Bank of Punjab account statement, where the State Bank asked banks to print it. Your 16-digit account number is on your cheque book, and you can turn it into the IBAN here.
My BOP account number has 17 digits. What now?
The calculator only builds IBANs for 16-digit BOP numbers, because the bank does not publish which digit a 17-digit number drops. Take the IBAN from your statement or ask your branch.
