Renewing a CNIC costs Rs 400 on normal service if you choose the card without a chip, Rs 1,150 on urgent and Rs 2,150 on executive. A Smart NIC with a chip costs more to renew: Rs 750, Rs 1,500 or Rs 2,500.
NADRA's targets for the card without a chip are 15 days on normal, 12 on urgent and 6 on executive. Set the card, the speed and the number of people above to total a family's renewals.
CNIC renewal fee by card and speed
NADRA's renewal fees and target days for both adult cards:
| Renewal | No chip | Days | Smart NIC | Days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | Rs 400 | 15 | Rs 750 | 31 |
| Urgent | Rs 1,150 | 12 | Rs 1,500 | 23 |
| Executive | Rs 2,150 | 6 | Rs 2,500 | 9 |
A modification or a duplicate for a lost card costs the same as a renewal. A first card without a chip is free on normal service, but a renewal is not.
Without a chip or Smart NIC: which to renew
NADRA issues two kinds of adult ID card. The Smart NIC carries a microchip with extra security features. The card without a chip is a standard card with a QR code that can be checked through the Pak-ID app. Both are valid for 10 years for an adult, and NADRA lists renewal fees for both, so you choose the card when you renew.
The card without a chip is cheaper at every speed, and NADRA's targets for it are shorter. On those targets a card without a chip on normal service (15 days) is due before a Smart NIC on urgent (23 days). Pay for the Smart NIC only if you want the chip itself.
When to renew, and what happens if the card has expired
Under Rule 12 of the NADRA (NIC) Rules, 2002, you must apply for renewal at any time before the card expires and no later than one month after the expiry date. Renewing early is allowed.
NADRA's fee table has no late renewal charge, so an expired card costs the same to renew. An expired card causes trouble elsewhere, though: DGIP asks for an original valid CNIC before it will take a passport application, so renew the card first if a passport is due.
How to renew
In the Pak-ID app
Sign in, choose the renewal option, check your details and pay by card. NADRA says the normal, urgent or executive time starts once the fee is paid. You may still be asked to visit a centre for fingerprints or a photograph.
At a NADRA registration centre
For a renewal NADRA asks only for your CNIC number. Choose the card type and the speed at the counter, then pay.
Delivery
NADRA lists a charge of Rs 165 to deliver an ID card within Pakistan. Add it if you choose delivery instead of collecting the card.
Worked examples
One renewal, cheapest option. Card without a chip, normal service: Rs 400.
A couple renewing together. Both choose the card without a chip on urgent: 2 × Rs 1,150 = Rs 2,300. Had they kept Smart NICs on urgent, the total would be Rs 3,000.
A card needed for a passport appointment in a week. Only executive meets that date. Without a chip it costs Rs 2,150 with a target of 6 days. A Smart NIC on executive costs Rs 2,500 and NADRA's target is 9 days, so it would arrive too late.
Once the new card is in hand, the passport renewal fee gives the next cost.
Fees and days from NADRA's fee structure. Check the amount shown in the Pak-ID app or at the counter before you pay. If you live abroad on a NICOP, the NICOP fee is charged in US dollars by region.
Questions people ask
What is the CNIC renewal fee in 2026?
Rs 400 on normal for the card without a chip, Rs 1,150 on urgent and Rs 2,150 on executive. Renewing a Smart NIC costs Rs 750, Rs 1,500 or Rs 2,500. A modification or a duplicate costs the same as a renewal. The NADRA ID card fee calculator also covers the B-form, FRC and NICOP.
What is the urgent CNIC renewal fee?
Rs 1,150 for the card without a chip, with a target of 12 days, or Rs 1,500 for a Smart NIC, with a target of 23 days. Executive costs Rs 2,150 or Rs 2,500. Days for every speed are compared under urgent ID card fee.
Is the CNIC renewal fee the same online?
Yes. NADRA's fee table gives one renewal fee for each card and speed, whether you apply in the Pak-ID app or at a centre. In the app you pay by card, and the processing time starts after payment. Delivery within Pakistan adds Rs 165.
How long does CNIC renewal take?
NADRA's targets are 15 days on normal, 12 on urgent and 6 on executive for the card without a chip. For a Smart NIC they are 31, 23 and 9 days. Busy centres can take longer, so leave a margin before any deadline.
Is there a fine for renewing an expired CNIC?
NADRA's fee table lists no late renewal charge; you pay the usual renewal fee. NADRA's rule is to apply no later than one month after the card expires (Rule 12 of the NADRA (NIC) Rules, 2002). An expired card also stops a passport application, since DGIP asks for a valid CNIC.
Can I change from a Smart NIC to a card without a chip at renewal?
Yes. NADRA lists renewal fees for both cards, and you choose the card when you renew. Moving to the card without a chip saves money at every speed: Rs 400 against Rs 750 on normal, for example.
