How to calculate age from date of birth
Age is counted in completed units: first whole years, then whole months, then the days left over. Work from the right, and borrow when a number is too small.
Worked example
Date of birth 25 December 1990, age on 10 March 2026.

- Days: 10 minus 25 does not go. Borrow the days of February 2026, which has 28: 10 + 28 = 38, and 38 minus 25 = 13 days. March drops to 2.
- Months: 2 minus 12 does not go. Borrow a year of 12 months: 2 + 12 = 14, and 14 minus 12 = 2 months. The year drops to 2025.
- Years: 2025 minus 1990 = 35 years.
The age is 35 years, 2 months and 13 days, the same as the calculator shows. The borrowed month is always the month just before the date you are measuring to, so a 28, 29, 30 or 31 day month changes the answer.
Birthdays on the 29th, 30th and 31st
A month is complete when the same date comes round again. When the next month is too short, it is complete on its last day. So someone born on 31 May completes a month on 30 June, and someone born on 31 January completes a month on 28 February, or 29 February in a leap year.
A person born on 29 February has a true birthday only in a leap year. In other years this calculator counts the birthday on 28 February, the last day of the month. Some offices use 1 March instead, which can matter by one day for an age limit. If a form or advert is strict about age, check how that office counts it.
The weekday of birth, the next birthday and the days to go are worked on the Gregorian calendar. Leap years follow the normal rule: every fourth year, except century years not divisible by 400, so 2000 was a leap year and 2100 will not be.
Age milestones in Pakistan
- CNIC: NADRA issues the computerised national identity card from age 18. Children under 18 are registered on the B-Form (Child Registration Certificate).
- Voting: you can be registered as a voter once you are 18.
- Government jobs: most adverts fix a minimum and maximum age on the closing date. CSS takes age on 31 December of the year before the exam. See the government job age calculator.

Age in Hijri years
A Hijri year has about 354 or 355 days, 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year. So your Hijri age runs ahead: 60 Gregorian years is about 61 years and 10 months in Hijri years. The calculator uses the Umm al-Qura calendar built into your browser. In Pakistan, Islamic dates follow the moon sighting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and can differ by a day or two. Age calculator questions
How do I calculate my age from my date of birth?
Subtract your date of birth from today's date in three steps: days, then months, then years. If the days do not go, borrow the days of the previous month; if the months do not go, borrow 12 months from the years. Born 25 December 1990, you are 35 years, 2 months and 13 days old on 10 March 2026.
How do I calculate age in Excel?
Put the date of birth in A1 and use =DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"y") for completed years. For the full age, join three parts: =DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"y")&" years "&DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"ym")&" months "&DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"md")&" days". Excel's day count for month ends can differ by a day from ours; check any borderline case.
How many days old am I?
The calculator shows it in the "In days" line. It counts the days from your date of birth up to the chosen date, not including the birth day itself. Someone born on 1 January 2000 is 9,497 days old on 1 January 2026.
What day of the week was I born?
It is shown in the result. The calculator works it out from the date alone, so it is correct for any date back to 1800. For example, 14 August 1947 was a Thursday and 14 August 1998 was a Friday.
Can I find my age on a future or past date?
Yes. Fill in the second date. This is how you check your age on the closing date of a job advert, on an admission cut-off date, or on the day you retire. Leave the box blank to use today's date in Pakistan.
