Islamic Calendar 2026 for Pakistan (1447 to 1448 AH)

The year 2026 runs from Rajab 1447 to Rajab 1448 AH. In Pakistan, Ramadan 1447 began on Thursday 19 February 2026, Eid ul Fitr was on Saturday 21 March, Eid ul Adha on Wednesday 27 May, and the new Hijri year 1448 began on Wednesday 17 June 2026.

Every date up to Rabi us Sani 1448 comes from a Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee decision. Later dates are marked expected and will be updated after each moon sighting. Use the box above to show any year from 1446 to 1450 by Pakistani or Saudi dates.

Islamic dates in 2026

Nights such as Shab-e-Miraj and Shab-e-Barat are observed on the evening before the date shown, because the Islamic day begins at maghrib.

Pakistan's federal holidays for Ashura, 12 Rabi ul Awwal and the two Eids follow these dates, but the exact days off are set each time by a Cabinet Division notification.

The Umm al-Qura column is the Saudi civil calendar. A starred day count is not final until the next month's moon is sighted.

Looking ahead to Ramadan 2027

On our estimate, Ramadan 1448 should begin in Pakistan on Monday 8 February 2027. The Ramadan crescent is due to be looked for on the evening of Sunday 7 February (29 Shaban), when the moon will be about 21 hours old at sunset in Karachi. That is usually enough in February's clear skies, but if it is not seen the first fast will be on Tuesday 9 February.

Eid ul Fitr 1448 is then expected around Wednesday 10 March 2027, and Eid ul Adha around Monday 17 May 2027. The Islamic date today page switches to each new month as soon as the committee announces it.

How the dates are worked out

• Announced months use the day the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee declared as the 1st, after sighting or completing 30 days.
• Expected months are our estimate. For each 29th we worked out the age of the moon at sunset in Karachi and compared it with the sixteen decisions from Muharram 1447 to Rabi us Sani 1448. In those decisions the crescent was reported seen when it was between 18 and 48 hours old, and never when it was younger than 18 hours.
• Saudi dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, used for civil purposes in Saudi Arabia. For Ramadan, Eid and Hajj the Saudi Supreme Court also relies on sighting.

Key dates and what the schools observe

All Muslims in Pakistan observe Ramadan, the two Eids and the Day of Arafah. Other dates are marked differently by different schools, and each is given here out of respect for those who observe it:

• Ashura (10 Muharram): Sunni families commonly fast on the 9th and 10th, following the sunnah. For Shia Muslims it is the day of mourning for Hazrat Imam Hussain and the people of Karbala, and Chehlum on 20 Safar marks forty days after it.
• 12 Rabi ul Awwal: Barelvi families celebrate Eid Milad un Nabi with gatherings and processions. Deobandi and Ahl-e-Hadith scholars honour the Prophet's birth but do not treat the day as a festival. Shia Muslims mark the Prophet's birth on 17 Rabi ul Awwal, and the days from 12 to 17 Rabi ul Awwal are observed by many as Unity Week (Hafta-e-Wahdat).
• Shab-e-Barat and Shab-e-Miraj are widely observed with worship at night, and some scholars caution against practices without a basis in the sunnah.
• 21 Ramadan is observed by Shia Muslims as Youm-e-Ali, the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali.
